The Altar of Separation, Purification, and Worship
“His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly cleanse His threshing floor.”
Matthew 3:12
There are seasons in the Kingdom of God when the Lord moves in extraordinary ways among His people. Seasons when He accelerates His work of preparation, bringing His Church into deeper maturity, greater holiness, and renewed intimacy with Himself.
I believe we have entered such a season—a spiritual season of the threshing floor.
It is a prophetic place of divine separation, purification, surrender, and worship. It is where the harvest is gathered, where the wheat is separated from the chaff, and where the hidden value within the grain is revealed.
The Lord teaches that the farmer knows precisely how and when to thresh his grain. Likewise, God knows exactly how to work within the lives of His people. His dealings are never random, nor are they without purpose. Every shaking, every refining, and every season of testing serves a divine purpose in bringing forth a mature harvest.
The Wind of Separation
John the Baptist prophesied of Christ
“His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly cleanse His threshing floor and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” Matthew 3:12
On the threshing floor, harvested grain was tossed into the air where the wind would separate the valuable wheat from the worthless chaff. The heavier grain would fall back to the floor, while the lighter chaff would be carried away.
What a picture of the work of the Holy Spirit.
The Lord is releasing a fresh winnowing wind upon His Church. The Breath of God is blowing across His people, revealing what is eternal and removing what is temporary. Motives are being tested. Hidden things are being shown. Structures built upon flesh are being shaken so that only what has been established by God remains.
The threshing floor is not a place of rejection; it is a place of preparation. God never removes in order to destroy. He removes in order to reveal.
The wheat is preserved.
The harvest is protected.
The purpose of the threshing floor is not loss but fruitfulness.
The Breaking of the Husk
Before the grain could be used, the outer husk had to be broken. This process speaks prophetically of the breaking of the flesh. The flesh represents everything within us that resists the rule and reign of Christ—self-will, pride, independence, and reliance upon our own understanding. These things often cling tightly to us, much like the husk clings to the grain.
Yet God, in His mercy, brings us into seasons where the outer shell is broken so that the true life of Christ emerges. The breaking process is seldom comfortable, but it is always necessary.
The Lord desires the life of Christ to be fully formed within us. Christ in us!
As the husk falls away, the purity of the grain is revealed. As self decreases, Christ increases.
The threshing floor is a place where identity is refined and character is strengthened.
The Altar of Worship
The threshing floor is closely connected with worship.
David understood this principle when he purchased the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
“I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing.”
1 Chronicles 21:24
David built an altar upon the threshing floor, and there the fire of God fell.
This reveals an important spiritual truth:
The threshing floor and the altar belong together.
True worship is not merely the singing of songs. Worship is the surrender of one’s life upon the altar of God.
It is the place where we lay down our ambitions, our opinions, and our desires before the King.
“Not my will, but Yours be done.”
The threshing floor is therefore a place of complete surrender.
It is where worship becomes sacrifice.
It is where sacrifice becomes obedience.
And where obedience produces intimacy with God.
The Last-Days Shaking
A great shaking before the fullness of God’s purposes are revealed.
The Lord is shaking everything that can be shaken so that what remains will be established upon an unshakable foundation.
Many are witnessing unprecedented changes across nations, governments, economies, and even within the Church itself. Yet amidst the shaking, God is establishing a people who remain steadfast and immovable.
“The righteous shall never be shaken.”
Psalm 55:22
The threshing floor is part of this divine process.
The shaking is not evidence that God has abandoned His people. Rather, it is evidence that He is preparing them. Every movement of His hand is aimed at bringing forth a purified Bride and a mature harvest.
The Promise of Harvest
Although the threshing floor speaks of separation and refinement, it ultimately points toward the harvest.
“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “when the plowman shall overtake the reaper.” Amos 9:13
The Lord is preparing an abundant harvest unlike any seen before. The separation of wheat from chaff is not the final destination. The harvest is!
The refining is making room for increase. The purification is preparing a people capable of carrying greater glory.
The threshing floor precedes the storehouse.
The breaking precedes the blessing.
The altar precedes the outpouring.
A People Prepared
The Lord is calling His people back to the threshing floor.
Back to the place of humility.
Back to the place of surrender.
Back to the place where genuine worship is born.
As the Wind of the Holy Spirit blows across the Church, everything that hinders fruitfulness is being removed. The husk is being broken. The chaff is being carried away. The fire upon the altar is burning fervently!
God is preparing a people who will worship Him in spirit and in truth.
A people whose lives have been refined by His presence.
A people who carry His glory and reflect Him in All things.
The Body of Christ is transitioning into greater Kingdom transformation!
The wind is blowing. The winnowing has begun. And the greater harvest is drawing near!
